Status Report on Springfield's Young Children 2006
“A Springfield where every family is embraced and every child is cherished"
A group of committed leaders set to work on improving the lives of children, from birth through age eight. As the Initiative has unfolded, its mission has been refined and is now aimed at children from birth through the age of five – the time when they enter kindergarten.
The 2006 Status Report on Springfield’s Children, is focused on the concept of School Readiness. We now know that success in school begins before a child ever enters a classroom. We now know that school readiness includes much more than just developing fundamental cognitive and language skills. Readiness for school is multi-faceted, encompassing the family, community and schools as well as the physical, social, emotional and cognitive skills that children need to thrive.
